Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio
Infocomm on Thursday released call failure statistics for March 3 that
revealed that 1.32 crore voice calls or 4.8% of total 27.52 crore calls
made to Bharti Airtel’s network had failed. However, the call failure
rate on Airtel’s network has come down significantly from 12.4% a month
earlier.
The call failure rate on Vodafone and Idea Cellular networks is much lower at 3.1% and 1.2%, respectively. According to Jio’s data, 0.23 crores calls were failed out of 19.66 crores. Call attempts from Jio subscribers to Vodafone India’s network. Further, 0.55 crore calls were failed out of 17.9 crore call attempts from Jio subscribers to Idea Cellular’s network.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has prescribed less than 0.5% call failures to maintain the quality of service (QoS) among service providers.
Jio statistics reveal that busy hour call failure rate on networks of Airtel, Vodafone and Idea is much higher at 11.55, 7% and 15.8%, respectively.
Reliance Jio was earlier involved in a public spat with these incumbents over the availability of points of interconnections (PoI. Jio had alleged that inadequate supply of PoIs from these telcos led to massive call failures on rival networks.
Incumbents, however, denied Jio’s allegations, and even went on to blame Jio of its preparedness. The telecom regulator had last year recommended a penalty of Rs 3,050 crore on these top telcos for violating licence norms by denying adequate interconnection points to newcomer Jio.
